An interactive and discussion-based exploration of the Hundertwasser Art Centre with Wairau Māori Art Gallery led by our talented Art Facilitators.
The Experience
Experience Hundertwasser's creative and environmental vision alongside world class contemporary Māori art. All under one afforested and golden-domed roof!
Together, we can customise your experience by focusing our themes to your learning outcomes and student needs. Students will have the chance to explore the key themes of art, identity, architecture and ecology which underpin Hundertwasser’s work - and how they relate to themselves and contemporary society. In addition, they can explore the unique themes from each new Wairau exhibition.
With the support of our Art Facilitator/Pouako, students will strengthen their visual literacy - deepening their observation, collaboration, communication and critical-thinking skills along the way.
The Journey
Your tour will take you through the:
Architecture: An embodiment of Hundertwasser’s vision - inside and out, this building is an artwork in its own right. It also has its own story to tell - one of community, creativity, nature in the city and recycling! Hundertwasser Exhibition: Come face to face with a selection of Hundertwasser’s paintings, graphic works, tapestries and original environmental posters, as well as architectural models, tree tenants and even his prototype humus toilet and water purification plant. Afforested Roof: Experience Hundertwasser’s philosophy of the horizontal belonging to nature and the vertical to man - an urban building with nature above! Wairau Māori Art Gallery: A changing exhibition schedule dedicated to showcasing world class contemporary Māori art. |
