Hundertwasser was an agent of change who worked hard to make the world a better place, first in Europe, the wider world and then in Aotearoa New Zealand. In this guided experience you will learn about Hundertwasser’s origins and how they influenced his perspectives, and then learn about how Hundertwasser tried to change the world for the better. You will learn about Hundertwasser’s work for the environment, in architecture and urban design, and his various campaigns in New Zealand.
Throughout this tour there are opportunities for ākonga to respond to their learning journey creating a set of customised notes which can be used to inform assessments NCEA Assessments pertaining to a historical context or individual. Throughout the tour reference is made to the concepts of whakapapa, tuakiri, whakamaumahara and impact linking to the big ideas of the History curriculum. This learning experience compliments broader learning intentions regarding human impact on the environment, the holocaust and WWII, immigration, historical movements and change agents, contemporary history and the contemporary history of Northland and New Zealand. It is possible to customise your experience to bring out themes relevant to your classroom learning.
This experience can be extended to include learning in the Wairau Māori Art Gallery ensuring a balanced offering supported by Mātauranga Māori and te Ao Māori. These exhibitions change every few months so make sure to enquire about the themes and potential learning available at the time of your visit.
