Justin Murfitt
“I have a strong interest in woodworking and sculpture and like to combine elements of both. I enjoy the challenge of conveying a message or idea with the simplest form(s) possible. Manu is an example of this and tries to express the beauty of our native birds (in this case the Matuku or Bittern) and the tragedy of their decline. I am co-designer of the Whangarei Sails at the southern entrance to Whangarei in 2002 and designed ‘Landfall’ installed at the Whangarei Town Basin Sculpture Park and other sites on the Hatea Loop.”
